Medications
Frequently diseases of the GI tract are responsive to medication therapy. The safe use of any medication is dependent on many factors including your health problems. Be sure to share with your health care provider all medications, supplements and herbal products that you use. Prior adverse reactions, history of liver or kidney disease are especially important. Many medications have unwanted side effects on the GI tract, very commonly diarrhea, constipation or nausea. If you have concerns regarding your medications you are encouraged to discuss this with your physician. Please note that some medications can be harmful if stopped suddenly (most notably anti-depressants, seizure medications and steroids), so be sure to discuss any troublesome symptoms with your prescribing physician.
